Zege Technologies’ Mpayer emerged second in the Dragons Den Pitching Competition at the Infodevs 5th Global Forum recently held in South Africa. Zege Technologies was among twenty of the world’s most inspiring high-growth entrepreneurs selected from 50 top SME entrepreneurs from around the world, to participate in a Dragons Den Pitching Competition at the Global Forum on Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
infoDev’s Global Forum on Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a biennial flagship event convening the global innovation and entrepreneurship community to exchange know-how, establish partnerships and develop innovative approaches.
The 5th Global Forum on Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship hosted by the South African government (Department of Science and Technology) was held in East London, South Africa, from 28 – 30 May, 2013.The theme of the Global Forum was “Harnessing innovation for social and economic growth”. The focus was on enabling innovation and enterprise development for economic growth, job creation and human capital.
Among the finalists in the Dragon Den pitching challenge were: Zege Technologies; providing mobile and web based financial solutions and Eneza Education; spreading education via the web, SMS and mobile web platforms. Both Zege Technologies and Eneza Education are currently incubated at m:lab East Africa.
Zege Technologies’ Mpayer was the 1st runners up in the Dragon Den pitching challenge winning a cash prize of $10,000. Mpayer is a mobile and web application that enables businesses to manage their payment transactions using both Mobile Money and cash. Mpayer helps business owners to manage and view business activities including incomes and expenses, performance of various product/services and customer information.
Zege Technologies participated in Pivot25 and was among the finalists in the Mobile Payment and Mobile Commerce category. They also won the COMESA Young Innovators award in 2011, amongst other awards.
